You can use it to spin an enormous circle and do massive damage to any enemies in your path. The first of these comes from a giant oar that your feline sensei gives you toward the beginning of the game. That magic power is reserved for more powerful special abilities that you'll gain from the magical weapons you'll be acquiring throughout the game. These abilities can be easily accessed with button and directional combinations, and they don't use any sort of magic power, so you can use them quickly and frequently to really cut up the hordes. One move let us spin around and slash in a circle, while another had us darting forward to perform a direct stab move. So far, we've been able to learn an ability from every kind of enemy we've encountered, from the creepy foot-soldier-like ninjaroids to attack robots and bats. Stealing enemies' abilities is a big part of the gameplay. If you hit the attack button just as this icon appears, the game will switch to a quick cutscene where you learn the enemy's attack (and vanquish it in the process). To do this, you'll have to wait until the enemy attacks, which will make an exclamation-point icon appear over it at the very last second. Besides keeping you facing an enemy at all times, locking on will begin to charge up your focus meter, and once that meter is full, you'll be able to learn a special ability from the enemy that you're targeting. There's also a lock-on ability that you can access by holding R1, but its purpose is twofold. The game pulls a nifty aiming trick that automatically targets your slashes at the nearest enemy target, taking some of the guesswork out of the action and making it easier to take down the many enemies that will come at you. ![]() You start off with merely the default katana, which you can use to perform a basic combo by hammering on the attack button. Don't worry there's still plenty of slashing to be had. The gameplay in Samurai Legend has changed noticeably from Brave Fencer, primarily because it's now played from a third-person perspective rather than from overhead. He will then be teleported back to wherever it is that he calls home. This will naturally open up new places for Musashi to explore, ultimately leading him to the four swords with which he needs to take down Gandrake. As you collect the elemental swords, the Anthedon will gain more power, allowing it to reach new areas of the world it couldn't get to previously. Antheum is unique because it sits atop the Anthedon, a giant magical sky whale that flies around the planet. After a brief tutorial segment that culminates in a fairly easy boss battle, Musashi is whisked away to the town of Antheum, where he learns that he'll have to gather four elemental swords in order to defeat Gandrake. We've seen some wild settings during just the first chapter of Samurai Legend. ![]() Just before she's kidnapped, a princess completes the "hero summoning" and brings Musashi onto the scene to beat up Gandrake and restore peace to the land. wants to develop new magical weaponry and is kidnapping magic-endowed folk to further its nefarious designs. Musashi Samurai Legend bears few ties to Brave Fencer, but a couple of similarities immediately stand out: The eponymous hero is once again summoned from another world by hapless citizens in need, and this time around, his hair is even more insane. Save the world once again as the quirkily coifed swordsman Musashi in the upcoming Musashi Samurai Legend. We've slashed our way through the first chapter and found the new game to be a likable update to the sleeper original. Finally, Square Enix is rectifying that absence with Musashi Samurai Legend, a new sequel with some interesting gameplay mechanics and a lot of quirky charm. While other Square franchises saw sequel after sequel on the PlayStation and the PS2, we didn't hear a peep from Musashi after Brave Fencer. It's been more than six years since the company that was Squaresoft brought us Brave Fencer Musashi, a cute overhead action role-playing game for the PlayStation that gave Zelda fans a different take on their favorite genre. The lasting appeal of "Salisbury" is that the tracks are strong throughout, with the title track providing a wonderful climax. The risk with having such a dominant piece on an album is that the remaining tracks are overshadowed. This really is one of Uriah Heep's best pieces on any album. Mick Box is truly inspired on the three improvised guitar solos he adds, and Byron's vocal timing is immaculate throughout. ![]() The track has a far more complex and progressive structure than the vast majority of the band's work. Hensley takes lead vocal on "Lady in black", an acoustic guitar driven chant-based track, which became their biggest hit in some countries. It's a song about as far away from the metal image of the band as you could find. His poem "The park" which became the album's second track, has Byron singing falsetto. This was in part due to Ken Hensley having a much greater involvement in song-writing duties, something he would come to dominate on future albums. The album was a natural but defined progression from "Very 'eavy, very 'umble", with greater emphasis on melody and refinement. In the city table, the highest and lowest temperature columns can be joined to form a "Temperature Range" column. Some tables have columns that can be joined together without losing any information. For tables that do work in this orientation, however, this is an easy way to decrease a table's width, and it works out-of-the-box in Markdown. Not every table will lend itself well to this type of rotation. If we rotate the table so the cities are along the top, we can transform it into a 4x5 table: The cities table above is has 5 columns and 4 rows (5x4). This method works when a table has more columns than it does rows. Let's take the city table and examine two ways to reduce its column count. As a result, removing one column from a table will reduce the width of that table by the width of the column's widest cell, plus its cells' horizontal padding, plus the width of one column border. Every column in a legible table comes with some horizontal padding in its cells and a border separating columns. Mitigation 1: Reduce columnsĪ reliable way to reduce the width of a table is to reduce the number of its columns. ![]() The table uses data from the Halifax, San Francisco, and Toronto Wikipedia pages. In this article, we'll apply each strategy to the following table, which in my browser has a max width of 626.2px and a min width of 456.2px: City So, if a table's content is too wide, causing the table to overflow, we really only have three options: If that's too wide, overflow the table's container. If the columns at their max widths are wider than the table, shrink columns to their minimum widths. If there's space left over, distribute it among the columns.Try to fit columns in a table without breaking lines in the column's cells. The algorithm described in the spec is a mouthful-nay, a horse's mouthful. So, browsers use an automatic table layout algorithm to determine how to render a table's columns and rows. The widths of the table and its cells are adjusted to fit the content. Okay, that may seem obvious, but solving this problem requires an answer to this question: how does a browser calclate a table's width?īy default, most browsers use an automatic table layout algorithm. The reason tables overflow is that they are too wide. Plus, because I write these blog posts in Markdown using a static site generator, I'll comment on how easily each method of reducing overflow works with a Markdown-based static site. This post will cover why tables are overflow-prone before presenting a few methods of making them more responsive. So I got to thinking: what are some ways to make tables more responsive and help prevent those tables from overflowing on smaller screens? (If you're dual-weilding a phone and a tablet, would you tap the screens with your nose?) On tablet (or larger device), in the other hand, that table would look rather handsome. On a phone, in the one hand, that table is bifurcated. Network table without responsive styling: Chrome Here's how the table looked in mobile Chrome: An earlier version of my blog post about how Google Fonts can affect page speed included tabular representations of page loads using different methods of loading Google Fonts, and I just couldn't get it to fit on a phone-sized screen.
